ATV and quad parts

Last updated

A large share of the quads sold in Western markets are Chinese-built around a handful of engines — the same GY6 and horizontal-single families used in scooters and pit bikes. Once you identify the engine, the engine parts problem is solved.

The chassis is another matter: frames, axles, hubs and bodywork are model-specific and frequently unmarked, and that is where quad orders go wrong.

In this guide

Engine parts: mostly solved

  • GY6-based 150cc and 250cc quads share transmission and engine internals with scooters of the same family.
  • Horizontal-single 110cc and 125cc quads share almost everything with pit bikes.
  • Ignition, carburettors, filters and gaskets follow the engine code, not the quad's brand.

Chassis parts: measure everything

  • Axles — length and spline count vary and are rarely listed.
  • Hubs and wheels — bolt pattern and centre bore.
  • CV boots and joints — by dimension.
  • Brake components — disc diameter, pad dimensions, caliper mount spacing.
  • Bodywork — model-specific, bulky, and the worst thing to get wrong.

Identifying an unbadged machine

Find the engine code on the crankcase first; that settles the engine. For the chassis, photograph the frame number plate and the part you are replacing with a ruler in shot, and measure the mounting points.

The brand on the plastics is frequently an importer's name applied to a chassis built by someone else, and searching it produces nothing useful. Dimensions always work.

Shipping notes specific to quads

Bodywork and frames are bulky and bill on volume; wheels are awkward; complete axles are long enough to need oversize handling. Consolidating a quad parts order with denser items averages the freight out considerably.

Questions & answers

Common questions

My quad has no brand. Can you still find parts?
Usually. The engine code plus measurements of the part you are replacing is enough for most components.
Are Chinese quad parts interchangeable between brands?
Engine parts frequently are, because the engines are shared. Chassis parts are not, and assuming they are is the common mistake.
Can I get a complete engine?
Yes, by sea, drained and declared. Air freight on a complete engine is rarely economic.
